About Girl Tattoos

Tattooing has a long history and can be found in cultures across the world. When it was brought to the west in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries tattoos were normally seen to be a man's prerogative where previously both men and women would have had tattoos. In recent years it has become far more fashionable and acceptable for women to have body art in the form of tattoos. This is particularly the case since female celebrities took to sporting tattoos.

When women have tattoos, it usually holds a special meaning for them or makes a statement about who they are. Many women tend to choose a tattoo that expresses something about their character, even when this was not the intention. Many women choose butterflies or dragonflies for their first tattoo and these are often girls who are looking for admiration - just as the butterfly and dragonfly inspire imagination. Where a girl wears her tattoo may also say something about her character. It is said that when many girls choose a tattoo they could not give a specific reason for the design that they chose. In later years however, they might have some recognition of why they were originally attracted to a particular design and see it as a part of their personality. Dragonflies are also considered unique and express a personality that does not wish to follow the crowd. Dragonflies also have a lot of stamina and some women will have a dragonfly tattoo at the end of a difficult period in their lives and as evidence of the fact that they are able to endure difficult times.

Many girls have a tattoo on their lower back and with today's low slung clothes this might still be visible to other people. For some women tattooing begins as an act of rebellion and then becomes a part of their life history. If you do decide to have a tattoo then make sure that it is a design you will be able to live with twenty years down the line. You should always choose a reputable tattoo artist - this may mean that the tattoo is more expensive but you will be getting clean needles, quality ink, and a good design. Most reputable tattoo artists will have a portfolio of work that you can look through before you settle on a particular design. Good tattoo artists will almost always be ready to work with you on a design and to make any changes to an existing design. Increasingly tattoos are becoming a mainstream art form and a way that people can express themselves.

Women's attitude and relationship to tattoos has changed considerably over the years. No longer do girls necessarily want to hide their tattoos - they may want the world to see the designs as a way of expressing their personality. This change in attitude has also sparked a change in choice of design. It is not unusual to see a woman with a dragon tattoo or a unicorn placed on their ankle. Body art is a growing field and more and more women are looking at tattoos as a permanent expression of themselves.
